  1. What is the social, historical and cultural background to the text?                                                                                                                                    The story of the Trojan War—the Bronze Age conflict between the kingdoms of Troy and Mycenaean Greece–straddles the history and mythology of ancient Greece and inspired the greatest writers of antiquity, from Homer, Herodotus and Sophocles to Virgil. Since the 19th-century rediscovery of the site of Troy in what is now western Turkey, archaeologists have uncovered increasing evidence of a kingdom that peaked and may have been destroyed around 1,180 B.C.—perhaps forming the basis for the tales recounted by Homer some 400 years later in the “Iliad” and the “Odyssey.”   (http://www.history.com/topics/ancient-history/trojan-war)

is torture necessary to protect lives? yes,no

I think that torture is necessary in situations where it could be used to protect lives. I do not agree with torture myself, but I do think it should be used to help others in situations where needed. Torture is bad but letting innocent citizens die when there’s a chance to save them and stop it for good. well i would recommend it.

Torture is a form of punishment and any act of which severe pain or suffering weather physical or mental, is intentionally inflected on a person for such purpose as obtaining from him or a third persons information.I think that is necessary and will hopefully stop bombings and other acts of terrorism.

For example, if there was a bomber who had been captured, and he tells you that he has hidden a very large bomb capable of destroying half of the country, but we would not confess.  For this situation torture would be a really useful way to make him give in, and hopefully if he loves his life then he will confess and then their will be time to get bomb squads over where ever he has hidden the bomb and do their job.

Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay is a famous prison which was involved in many acts of torture and even deaths.

this is a list of ten famous prisons known for torture,

.Hanoi Hilton, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Port Arthur, Elmina Castle, Robbin Island, Goree Island,

Chateau d’If, Devil’s Island, Tower of London and Arcatraz.

Social contracts

It is important for the characters to have and follow a contract this is because in the story the characters should be true full to each other this will keep the story more understanding for readers and that people get in to the story more.

This is Your Online Domain

Hello and welcome to your personal online journal.

Edutronic has been created to enhance and enrich your learning at the London Nautical School. Its purpose is to provide you with an audience for your work (or work-in-progress) and you have the choice (by altering the ‘visibility’ of your posts) of whether your work on here is visible to the world, or only to your teacher.

Anything you post here in the public domain represents you and thus it’s important that you take care with that decision, but don’t be afraid to publish your work – as the feedback you may get from people at home, your peers and people from around the internet is only likely to enhance it.

Remember you can always access your class blog and all manner of resources through the Edutronic main website – and by all means check out the sites of your peers to see what they’re getting up to as well.

If you have any questions for your teacher, an excellent way to get an answer is to create a new private post on this journal. Your teachers are am notified of any new posts and will reply swiftly to any queries.

Make the most of, and enjoy this new freedom in your English learning!
